NORFOLK, Va. — The annual Fleet Fest celebration at Naval Station Norfolk has been canceled due to the ongoing government shutdown, officials announced Tuesday.
In a statement posted to social media, organizers said the decision was made “due to the ongoing lapse in appropriations,” adding that they appreciated the community’s understanding and the support from volunteers, sponsors, and partners who helped plan this year’s event.
Fleet Fest, one of the Navy’s largest public outreach events, typically draws thousands to Naval Station Norfolk each fall. The event offers the public a rare opportunity to tour active Navy ships, meet sailors, and experience base life firsthand.
