Title: Carney Calls Next 48 Hours Key for Gaza Peace Efforts
OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney emphasized the importance of the next 48 hours in the ongoing Gaza peace process. He stated that Canada is urging all parties involved in the U.S.-backed peace plan to adhere to their commitments.
Israel and Hamas have reached an agreement on the initial phase of the plan, which includes a temporary halt to hostilities. As part of this agreement, Hamas is expected to release 20 living hostages, while Israel will withdraw its troops to a designated line.
Carney expressed gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump, as well as leaders from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, for their roles in facilitating the agreement. He noted that the upcoming days are critical for the success of the peace initiative.
In addition, Carney announced that Canada will provide humanitarian aid to support the process. Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand echoed this sentiment in a statement on social media, calling for the immediate and unrestricted resumption of humanitarian assistance in the affected areas.
Anand also affirmed Canada’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at transforming this initial agreement into a sustainable peace for both Israelis and Palestinians.
