It’s quiet here. Too quiet.

These Bay City area high school football predictions are getting my full attention with no distractions – or kids – in the house.

When the youngest of our four boys left for his freshman year of college this fall, it left my wife and I as empty nesters. And this house hasn’t been the same.

For starters, I haven’t eaten a chicken nugget in weeks.

In fact, there is next to nothing in our refrigerator and nobody cares.

And I can’t believe the things you can do on Sundays when laundry doesn’t require a sunrise-to-sunset commitment.

But the oddest change is the silence. It’s so quiet I can hear every creak and crack a house remarkably makes. I used to chalk up every one of those noises to one of the boys being up to something. Now… what was that??!!
