In the wake of LeBron James' "Second Decision" that ended up being an advertisement for Hennessy, a lifelong Los Angeles Lakers fan is suing James over the announcement.
In the lawsuit, the fan claimed he was deceived out of hundreds of dollars. He had been eagerly anticipating LeBron James' retirement, believing that the teaser video was just that, rather than an advertisement for his new collaboration with the Hennessy brand.
The fan asserts that James owes him the money he paid for tickets, which he believed would allow him to attend one of James' last games with the Lakers on March 31, 2026, against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The fan also accused James of "fraud, deception and misrepresentation," and is suing him for a total of $865.66 for the two tickets that he purchased.
In the video that the fan is referring to, which James posted on Monday, the format was reminiscent of when he announced his move from Cleveland to Miami in 2010, using the hashtag #TheSecondDecision. As James enters his 23rd season in the NBA, he has been adamant about dismissing retirement talks and has made it clear that he is focused on the season ahead. James will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2026 season, when he will be 41 years old.
