Police say homicide detectives have begun searching the area of Carrot Creek, about 160 kilometres west of Edmonton, for missing Indigenous teenager Samuel Bird, who authorities believe is dead.
Carrot Creek is on the edge of a vast area west of Alberta’s capital where police believe the 14-year-old’s body was abandoned.
EPS Det. Jared Buhler is scheduled to meet reporters at noon Thursday in Carrot Creek to provide an update on the case.
Samuel was last seen on surveillance video June 1 at 8:30 p.m. walking through the grounds of Holy Cross School near 151 Street and 104 Avenue. He then went to a friend’s house at 150 Street and 106 Avenue, police say, where he was last seen.
Authorities are treating Samuel’s four-month long disappearance as suspicious. They believe the teen is dead a
