WASHINGTON ‒ President Donald Trump plans to meet with his Cabinet on Thursday as the federal government shutdown entered Day Nine with still no end in sight and as the Senate prepared to vote again on reopening a day after the sixth failed vote.

The Cabinet meeting offers a opportunity for department chiefs to describe how the shutdown is hurting Americans who rely on government services. For example, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has warned of airline delays as air-traffic controllers and Transportation Security Administration officers take time off rather than work without being paid.

Most Senate Democrats pushed for health care reforms in their package, while the GOP-backed legislation would have temporarily kept government funding going until Nov. 21.
