A Nobel Laureate professor of biology whose work paved the way for the creation of Dolly the Sheep has died at the age of 92. Tributes have been paid to Professor Sir John Gurdon, who was dubbed the "Godfather" of cloning . ‌

Sir John conducted the first ever successful cloning experiment while he was a young researcher at the University of Oxford in 1962. ‌

He was able to take the genetic material from a cell lining a frog's gut, put it in an empty egg and observe a new tadpole developing -
