PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals held a hearing Thursday morning to decide whether or not the Trump administration can deploy National Guard troops in Portland.

After hearing arguments from Oregon and U.S. Department of Justice attorneys, the three-judge panel ended the hearing without making a ruling. At this time, there is no indication of what that decision will look like or when the panel will rule.

This hearing is the latest in an escalating legal battle between the federal government and local leadership, centered on protests at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Portland's South Waterfront district.
