Taylor Swift may need to draw up a Hollywood playbook for Travis Kelce.
During her appearance on "The Late Show with Seth Meyers," Swift reflected back on the Kansas City Chiefs star attending night two of the Eras Tour in London in 2024, when he made an embarrassing mix-up.
Meyers played social media video of Kelce rubbing shoulders and dancing with a packed tent of A-listers, including Hugh Grant, Tom Cruise, Liam Hemsworth, Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher and "Barbie" director Greta Gerwig, asking Swift about "a story that I heard is true."
The Grammy-winning singer said this night on the tour in particular gave her "FOMO" because of how hard the group, which also included Kelce's friends from Cleveland Heights, was dancing and the "shots that everyone was taking." She added, "I can see everyone is getting drunker and wilder."
"The most fun thing about having Travis out on tour is he would go to the tents and give me the tea afterward," she continued. "We'd do the debrief afterward in the car."
She told the tight end ahead of time that Gerwig, his "favorite director," was going to be in the tent. After the show, Kelce told Swift he met her, but that the joke he prepared didn't land.
"I walked up to her and said, 'I love 'Barbie.' I'm just Ken, too.' And then I pointed to you," he explained to Swift in the car. "She smiled politely, but she didn't say anything."
Kelce said after the awkward encounter that Gerwig danced a lot with Hugh Grant, and they seemed like soulmates. "The tea is crazy tonight Travis," she told him. "I have several follow-up questions."
But as Swift scrolled through social media in the backseat, she saw a lot of social media videos of Kelce dancing with Gerwig. Confused, she asked him about it, and he replied, "That's not Greta."
Swift quickly realized the person Kelce told the "Barbie" joke to was Grant's wife, Anna Eberstein.
"Is there any chance the people that look like soulmates are Hugh Grant and his soulmate?" she said she asked him.
Meyers turned the mix-up into a positive: "The bad news for you is he has face blindness, and the good news is that he can recognize true love."
