The Alabama Department of Transportation has awarded more than $2 million in state grants to help improve 27 airports.

The grants are part of ALDOT’s Alabama Airport Improvement Funding Program. The program provides financial assistance and technical support to public airports across the state. Eligible projects may include land acquisition, runway upgrades, facility repairs, maintenance and operational improvements.

In our area, Alexander City’s airport will get help with an apron expansion, the Andalusia/Opp airport a taxiway, the Clanton airport pavement, the Greenville airport a hangar, the Selma airport a hangar apron, the Union Springs airport a hangar and the Wetumpka airport, runway approach improvements.
