ASHEVILLE - The plan to rebuild Ingles in Swannanoa was unanimously approved by the Buncombe County Board of Adjustment Oct. 8, putting the plan one step closer to restoring the unincorporated community's primary grocery store.
Swannanoa's Ingles was flooded by Tropical Storm Helene in September 2024, knocking it out of commission. After the flood, the company had suggested it would rebuild on the property, but released sparse details as residents were encouraged to visit stores in Black Mountain or in Oteen. The company confirmed they would demolish a neighboring building to the current Ingles, a former ACE Hardware, and build a new store on the property in July.
