EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - A trio of Metro Detroit women are facing charges for allegedly defrauding a Medicaid transportation program.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office says 51-year-old Bernice Pate of Inkster was arraigned Wednesday in 54B District Court in East Lansing. She’s been charged with 10 counts of Medicaid fraud.

Pate’s arraignment came two days after 55-year-old Wanda Spivey of Taylor and 34-year-old Ashley Mendoza of Detroit were each arraigned on five counts of Medicaid fraud.

Nessel’s office says the women tried to take advantage of a Michigan Medicaid program that provides mileage reimbursement to enrolled beneficiaries when they have to travel to eligible medical appointments.
