AVON LAKE, Ohio -- Avon Lake City Schools has announced new safety policies after a student was struck by a motorized bike during halftime of the Oct. 3 home football game.

The district said the Troy Intermediate School student was taken to the hospital with minor injuries after being hit by an e-bike outside the stadium gates.

The incident, along with a previous crash last school year, prompted administrators to revise rules for both e-bikes and student conduct at games.

Effective immediately, e-bikes equipped with throttles are banned from all school campuses.

District officials said students riding recklessly -- including cutting through traffic, performing stunts or failing to yield to pedestrians -- have created “dangerous situations.”
