What started as a typical afternoon quickly became unforgettable for Lilia Toscano when she spotted a rubber tote abandoned near the road by her Detroit residence.

Something about the container felt off. Trusting her instincts, Toscano stepped outside to investigate.

As she neared the tote, she noticed it had been tightly sealed with tape. Opening it revealed a devastating sight: a terrified dog curled inside , trembling and staring up with wide, fearful eyes.

The pup was too frightened to move, prompting Toscano to call her neighbor for assistance.
