The 13 people arrested during a pro-Palestinian protest on Boston Common on Oct. 7 should be “prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law” for attacking police officers, Mayor Michelle Wu said Wednesday, as six of the defendants appeared before a judge.
In an earlier statement, Wu said the city will not tolerate violence and “we categorically condemn those who came into our community to attack our police officers.”
Of those arrested Tuesday night, however, seven listed a home address in Boston, and the others said they lived in nearby suburbs.
Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox said Wednesday that his department’s role is to keep the peace.
“For protests and or for protesters, we’re there to keep the peace,” he told a Globe reporter.
