Though we saw rainfall over the past few days, it was not enough to alleviate the dry spell across ENC. The latest drought monitor has a severe drought for portions of the area. That is a level three on the drought monitor scale. The remainder of the area is still in moderate drought, with the coastal counties, and south of Highway 17 in an abnormally dry spell.
Last week’s update for the area had moderate to abnormally dry conditions for most of Eastern North Carolina.
While we will see rain this weekend, thanks to a coastal low riding up the East Coast. Rainfall will not be drought-busting, but should help soil levels out, especially as we are heading into the fall fire season.
