West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday launched a blistering attack on the BJP-led central government and the Election Commission (EC), warning them not to "play with fire”. Her remarks came amid rising political tension in West Bengal over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list.

The Chief Minister alleged that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list is a disguised attempt to implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) by another name. "This is not SIR, this is backdoor NRC," she stated emphatically.
