SAN FRANCISCO — Thousands of reports of a Microsoft outage flooded DownDetector Thursday afternoon when people couldn't access workplace applications.

The outage began around 2 p.m. ET, when people reported Microsoft 365 itself was down, impacting email service Outlook, communication service Teams and the Microsoft Store.

Microsoft began investigating and ultimately found a "portion of network infrastructure in North America was misconfigured, resulting in impact." No other clarification was immediately available.

Microsoft says the outage has since been cleared and "all products are operational."

DownDetector outage reports dropped substantially, going from a peak of 15,000 to a low of 500 by 4 p.m.
