The leader of a grassroots progressive group that has organized “No Kings” protests in Mobile this year said Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch is “unworthy of our trust and of his position” and lacks the fitness to serve as the county’s top law enforcement officer.
Maura Mandyck, planning and messaging coordinator with Indivisible Mobile, said in a news release Thursday that a Halloween display outside Burch’s personal residence illustrates a “mocking tableau” displayed in “gleeful cruelty.”
The display, created by Burch’s wife, Michelle, features skeletons dressed as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents chasing skeletons wearing sombreros and traditional Mexican ponchos. The decorations have drawn widespread criticism on social media and brought national attention to Mobile,
