WARREN — Trumbull County commissioners voted Wednesday to extend the deadline for companies seeking to provide medical care for prisoners in the Trumbull County jail to Oct. 28, but it may not matter because the current provider has indicated he plans to take advantage of an extension option on his contract.

The Trumbull County sheriff has been accepting applications from physicians and medical companies interested in providing medical care within the jail in 2026.

Dr. Phillip P. Malvasi is under contract with the county to provide medical care in the jail. However, Malvasi had not formally informed the county whether he would be seeking an extension to continue providing medical services into next year.
