COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Nearly 180 civilian employees returned to work at the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) on Wednesday as the ongoing government shutdown passed the one-week mark.

According to a spokesperson for the Academy, 178 employees returned to work “under an exception approved by the Secretary of the Air Force in coordination with the Department of War.” That spokesperson also said employees are “authorized to perform limited duties essential to our core mission of graduating and commissioning 2Lts for our Air Force and Space Force.”

According to USAFA, like other government employees, the returning employees will not be paid until funds are appropriated via legislation.
