WASHINGTON, D.C. (WWNY) - North Country Congresswoman Elise Stefanik is calling for a stand-alone vote to pay members of the military during the government shutdown.
“As a senior member of the Armed Services Committee and the longtime representative for Fort Drum and the 10th Mountain Division, I have cosponsored and am calling for a floor vote on the Pay Our Troops Act to ensure that our brave and dedicated servicemembers are paid,” Stefanik said in a news release.
According to published reports, if Congress doesn’t act by next Monday, members of the military won’t get paid as scheduled on October 15. Troops are expected to receive back pay after the shutdown ends.
