A Sunday fire in an Everett apartment complex is being investigated as suspicious, according to the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services.

The Everett Fire Department responded around 1:50 a.m. to 25 Charlton St., where they were met with heavy smoke and an active sprinkler on the building’s sixth floor, the department said on social media .

The fire was extinguished quickly, the department said.

All occupants escaped safely but were temporarily displaced, according to Jake Wark, public information officer for DFS.

Wark said on Tuesday the fire is being investigated as “suspicious” after an examination of the scene and witness interviews.

The incident is under investigation by Everett Fire and Police departments and State Police fire investigators, Wark said.
