The Emporia Fire Department (EFD) has concluded that a structure fire in the 1100 block of Constitution Street was purposely set and incendiary in nature. A juvenile has now been referred to the Lyon County Attorney’s Office for possible charges.

Emporia Fire fighters responded to a structure fire in the 1100 block of Constitution Street, on September 20 at 4:23 p.m. After an active fire was extinguished, EFD fire investigators probed for the cause and origin of the fire. Evidence has pointed to the fire being intentionally set.

“Intentionally set fires represent a significant threat to life, property, and public safety,” a written release stated. “The Emporia Fire Department remains committed to diligently investigating such incidents to identify those responsible and ensure public safe
