There’s good news when it comes to heart disease. Medical advancements have dramatically lowered heart attack death rates by enabling faster diagnosis and better treatments.
Dr. Bill Warren, Cardiologist at the Chattanooga Heart Institute says “In the last 50 years, deaths from heart attacks have decreased significantly over 80% and in 1970 about 40% of all deaths were due to cardiac related causes.”
Dr. Warren says that is due to a number of factors.
“I think some of the big contributing factors to the decrease in heart-related deaths are education and public awareness regarding the risks of smoking, which has decreased significantly in America.”
