WILKES-BARRE — The City of Wilkes-Barre announced a traffic advisory during the PennDOT rehabilitation work on South Street Bridge, beginning Friday , Oct. 10, and continuing Saturday , Oct. 11 .
According to the announcement, mircomilling of the bridge’s deck surface will begin Friday morning and continue into the evening. The bridge will be open to a single lane of traffic, with traffic control at both ends.
Micromilling is a technique used in road projects to typically remove an inch or less, but can remove up to two inches, of asphalt pavement to create a smoother surface. Doing this creates a clean, consistent surface allowing for optimal adhesion as a new layer of surface treatment is applied.
This corrects minor imperfections in the road to provide a smoother driving experience.
