Warren County planners agreed Wednesday that a proposed zoning change to allow “backyard beekeeping” needs more work.
Planning Commission Chairman Robert Myers, Vice Chairman Hugh Henry and commissioners William Gordon, Scott Kersjes and Brigitte Miller voted to table draft amendments to the zoning ordinance to allow beekeeping as an accessory use by right in the R-1 Residential Zoning District. The motion as approved calls for the proposed amendments to be put on the commissioners’ next meeting agenda as an item to advertise for a public hearing.
Commissioners sided with the several speakers at the public hearing that the supplemental regulations proposed with the amendment were too restrictive. Each of the speakers said the regulations would do more harm than good.
