It is a measure of how important conventions are to San Francisco’s economy that one of the first investments of the new, privately funded San Francisco Downtown Development Corporation was to dramatically increase power washing of sidewalks near Moscone Center.

“This is truly the visitor gateway for downtown San Francisco,” said Shola Olatoye , the nonprofit corporation’s newly hired CEO, who came out to 4th and Minna streets Wednesday to highlight her organization’s sponsoring of an increase of power washing from twice a month to five days a week.

Olatoye drew attention to the nearby convention center, where crews were busy preparing for Dreamforce, the big annual conference staged by the software company Salesforce that has again closed off Howard Street outside of Moscone Center
