The state said it has completed emergency road repairs to the main highway on Molokai damaged by coastal erosion at a cost of $720,000.

The eastbound lane of Kamehameha V Highway, or Route 450, on Molokai reopened Tuesday near mile post 18.7, according to the Hawaii Department of Transportation.

Officials had closed the eastbound lane of the highway in December to address the erosion and to prevent additional damage to the roadway.

In January, crews put down aggregate-filled bags to dissipate wave energy against the side of the road and filled the voids created by previous waves.
