GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY — Investigators on scene Thursday, almost a week later, still looking into a fire that caused a Buckley area family to lose their house and car.

It all happened Saturday night shortly before 12 O’clock, leaving the people who lived there narrowly escaping the fire.

Flames ripped through this house on Fox Road near Buckley just before midnight Saturday. By the time firefighters got there, the fire had already made its way upstairs.

Tenants Bob and Lisa Hilliard lost their home of more than five years, a dog and a cat.

" We were just getting up from sitting in the living room, and we were going to get ready for bed,” said Bob. We both just kind of smelled smoke and at the same time went to figure out where it was coming from."
