LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Some 7News viewers may know our very own Tower Cat enjoys lounging outside our station. However, TC had a recent health scare that serves as a warning for your own outdoor cats.

TC has weathered Hurricane Laura, a daring newsroom heist, and even record snowfalls. However, she recently showed up with a swollen face and a leaky eye.

After a dramatic capture , we brought her to the vet. What they discovered was a parasite that commonly affects outdoor cats during this time of year.

“She’s outdoors enough where she hunts, and these Cuterebra Larvae are found near rodent burrows,” said Dr. Terry Ford, the veterinarian who treated Tower Cat at Neighborhood Veterinary Centers in Lake Charles.
