A South Island family is pushing for changes to driving laws after their 12-year-old son was killed while rollerblading with his family on a country road outside their home in August.
“We were shocked to find that there is this seeming gap in legislation, that doesn’t account for dangerous drivers who have killed people, to still be able to retain license and insurability,” said Zahra Rasul, Xavier’s mom.
Xavier’s Law is modelled after Andrew’s Law, which is being proposed in Ontario following the death of father Andrew Cristillo, who was killed by an alleged dangerous driver.
