In a landmark decision, the Karnataka Cabinet on Thursday approved the Menstrual Leave Policy 2025, extending one day of paid leave every month to all working women across government offices, garment factories, MNCs, IT companies, and private industries. The move marks Karnataka as one of the few states in India to officially recognise menstrual health as a workplace right and a key component of women’s welfare.

Chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the Cabinet meeting took up the proposal placed by the Labour Department , emphasising that menstrual health is integral to women’s dignity, productivity, and well-being. The policy aims to create a supportive work environment where women can prioritise their health without stigma or professional repercussions.
