MIDDLETON, Wis. (WMTV) - A DeForest middle schooler is taking her career aspirations to new heights.
At just 12 years old, Zoey Salhus can say she’s flown an airplane.
“I feel like it’s pretty rare to say that,” the seventh grader said.
Salhus participated in Willa Brown Aviation Academy’s ‘Wings to Fly’ program. The academy aims to introduce aviation to underrepresented youth with a focus on women and people of color for free.
Salhus’ mom, Stacey Petersen, found this unique opportunity for her daughter and then watched her take to the skies.
“Oh, I was so proud. I was so so proud,” Petersen said. “And I was just really hoping that it was going to spark an interest that she never knew she had before.”
