CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. — New York Attorney General Letitia James on Thursday released body-worn camera footage related to the death of Hugh Davis, who was fatally shot by Cheektowaga Police Department officers back in August.

The release of that footage comes as part of the Attorney General’s ongoing investigation into the shooting, which happened around 12:45 p.m. on Aug. 13. Officers were attempting to arrest Davis at his apartment in Buffalo for allegedly committing a previous assault in Cheektowaga.

According to the Attorney General’s office, as an officer knocked on the door, the door panel fell into the apartment. Davis emerged holding a knife and nearly struck an officer, prompting one officer to discharge his service weapon. Davis was declared dead at the scene, and officers recovered
