FRONTENAC — The St. Joseph’s volleyball team had every excuse for an emotional letdown or being distracted Thursday night. But the Angels wouldn’t take it.

Less than 24 hours after a draining five-set win over St. Dominic, No. 2 in the STLhighschoolsports.com large school rankings, St. Joseph’s had to turn the page and play a red-hot Mascoutah team.

Instead of succumbing to fatigue or the pageantry of the pre-match senior night ceremony, St. Joseph’s remained laser-focused in an impressive 25-23, 25-23, 25-22 sweep in a battle between Missouri and Illinois powers.

“They just played with a lot of heart,” St. Joseph’s coach Shenee Boyle said. “Their bodies may have been tired, but their minds weren't.”
