Drought conditions are expanding in Alabama.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, the latest data shows 94% of Alabama is seeing abnormally dry or drought conditions, as of Oct. 7.

The Drought Monitor showed extreme drought conditions increased from 1% the week before to 5% this week.

The extreme drought areas were seen in parts of Pickens, Greene, Tuscaloosa, Hale and Perry counties.

At this time in 2024, there were no areas in Alabama experiencing severe or extreme drought.
