A community in Margate is grieving as investigators search for answers into a massive fire that ripped through a home on Thursday.

The fire broke out at a home in the 5500 block of Southwest 6th Street, just east of State Road 7.

Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed the house on fire as thick smoke billowed out of a large hole in the roof. Crews were seen using hoses to attack the fire.

Neighbors said they heard what sounded like an explosion. At one point, the power went out.

“Black smoke, black smoke—and then the power went out," neighbor Angelica Dubanewicz said.

Neighbors said one person was killed in the fire, but NBC6 was working to confirm that information with police.
