Title: Canada Post Union Shifts to Rotating Strikes

OTTAWA — The union representing Canada Post employees announced it will transition from a nationwide strike to rotating strikes starting Saturday morning. This change aims to resume the movement of mail and parcels across the country. The Canadian Union of Postal Workers stated that the rotating strikes will commence at 6 a.m. local time.

This decision follows a meeting between union representatives and the federal minister responsible for Canada Post, Joël Lightbound. The union expressed its concerns during the meeting on Wednesday evening regarding recent changes to the postal service's operational mandate. These changes include the expansion of community mailboxes and the closure of several rural post offices.

The union requested that Lightbound reconsider these changes, but he indicated that they would remain in effect. The shift to rotating strikes is intended to minimize disruption while addressing the union's grievances with the postal service's new policies. The union hopes this approach will facilitate ongoing negotiations with the government and Canada Post management while allowing some level of service to continue for customers.
