Supreme Court to hear pleas on Karur stampede, actor Vijay's party challenges SIT

The Supreme Court will hear today a petition seeking a CBI probe into the Karur stampede case. It will also hear a petition filed by actor Vijay’s party (TVK), challenging the Madras High Court’s directive to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

The Madras High Court had constituted the SIT on 3 October to investigate the incident. Following this, TVK approached the Supreme Court, arguing that the investigation should not be conducted solely by the Tamil Nadu police but by an independent agency under the supervision of the Supreme Court.
