CHICAGO – As often as possible this season the Milwaukee Brewers have tried to give Freddy Peralta five days' rest, believing the right-hander was at his absolute best at his freshest.
But with their pitching a mess after Quinn Priester's first-inning meltdown against the Chicago Cubs in a 4-3, Game 3 loss in the National League Division Series on Oct. 8, it was all hands on deck for the Brewers in Game 4 on Thursday night as they sought to close out their Central Division rival.
And that left them with one clear option: Their ace, Peralta.
"I mean, you think about everything this time of year. You just want to win," manager Pat Murphy said prior to Game 4. "We're limping in with the starting pitching. It hasn't been our strong point.
"But we're playing to win it all. We're all in
