WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - October is Hispanic Heritage Month, and one Wichita group is connecting people of all ages through folkloric dance.

Founded by Latina mothers who wanted their children to experience their roots, Raíces De Mi Tierra Ballet Folklorico is keeping tradition alive.

"They can connect art and community and culture and all in one place," director Maira Castaneda said.

It allows people to embrace and learn parts of their heritage.

"I feel much more connected. The music is just amazing. I would have never learned these traditional songs if it weren't for this group," Raíces De Mi Tierra student and teacher Allison Bailey said.

Bailey joined Raíces De Mi Tierra Ballet Folklorico four years ago after she saw her cousin perform in the group.
