GREENSBURG, Pa. —
Friday is the last day of work for 125 furloughed employees in Westmoreland County due to the ongoing state budget impasse.
“It’s hitting everybody across the commonwealth because this budget’s not passed. We don’t have our fully funded budget, and we could have it,” said Vickie Rafferty. Advertisement
Rafferty works for the Westmoreland County Area Agency on Aging, an office she said will lose five people to the furloughs.
“We’re already at double caseloads with our care managers that go out into the field,” Rafferty told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4.
She is bracing for the ripple effects likely to follow the cuts to vital services.
