COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - “God used the Army to help prepare me for ministry,” 1SG (Ret) Jay Bishop said.
This local veteran traded one life of service for another. It started with almost 14 years in the Army, including leading fellow soldiers through the War in Afghanistan.
Now a pastor and leadership coach in Columbus, medically retired 1st Sgt. Jay Bishop sat down with us to share his journey, including what it was like deploying to war zones.
“Boots on the ground...this place Afghanistan, this is a nice looking place, then it’s oh wait, these people here are trying to kill me,” Bishop said. “There are some gruesome moments...hard moments that kinda live with you, but there are very very important lessons that kinda shaped who I am today.”
