A NYPD officer was shot but narrowly averted serious injury when a bullet grazed his head Thursday night in a heart-pounding shootout in the Bronx with a teenage gunman, officials said.

The confrontation erupted at 1015 E. Gun Hill Road around 10 p.m., officials said.

The officer was rushed to Jacobi Hospital, and was in stable condition.

The 18-year-old suspect, who lives in the Bronx, is in custody, officials said.
