A Perth grandmother duped into becoming a drug mule in an elaborate love scam has abandoned her final line of appeal on drug importing charges in Japan.

Donna Nelson was arrested in January 2023 at Japan's Narita International Airport and charged with trying to import almost two kilograms of methamphetamine.

The drugs were found in the lining of her bag, and in December 2024 she was sentenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of the crime.

Nelson had launched an appeal against her conviction in the Japan High Court, but it was thrown out last month.

She could have applied for this decision to be reviewed in Japan's Supreme Court, but her family say she has now decided to abandon any further appeal.
