Anthony Albanese says independent senator David Pocock should not be booted from the Parliamentary Sports Club for raising concerns about a gambling lobby firm’s sponsorship and calling into question the prime minister’s presidency of the club during Senate estimates this week.
Pocock was ejected from the club on Thursday, having raised concerns during Senate estimates on Tuesday about the sponsorship of the Parliamentary Sports Club by Responsible Wagering Australia – an industry lobby group. Pointing out that Albanese was president of the club, he asked how that sponsorship gelled with the ministerial code of conduct.
