Srinagar, Oct 10: Supreme Court has granted the central government a period of six weeks to file its response regarding the demand for restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

The decision came during a hearing on Friday, where a bench led by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai heard submissions from both the petitioners and the Centre.

Acknowledging the sensitivity of the issue, the CJI noted that factors like the recent terror attack in Pahalgam must be considered when evaluating the timeline for restoring statehood to the Union Territory. ( Inputs from KNS)
