A judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by a Roxbury High School librarian against three residents she said had harassed and defamed her for including LGBTQ+-themed books in the school library.

The suit filed by Roxana Caivano in 2023 came during a period when conservative activists in New Jersey and throughout the U.S. criticized school boards and districts for allowing books that included graphic themes or descriptions and illustrations of sex acts.

In Roxbury, the dispute centered on the graphic novel "Gender Queer: A Memoir," which includes some depictions of sex acts, and other materials approved by the state as part of its sex education and gender-identity curriculums .
