YOUNGSTOWN The suspect in a Southside shooting incident that injured an officer has been identified as Arthur Tyrone Mitchell, according to Sergeant Jeff Saluga of the Mahoning County Sheriff's office.

Sergeant Saluga also shared the timeline of the situation. Police received a call Thursday afternoon about a "suspicious prowler" near a home on Rush Boulevard.

Two officers were sent to the scene and found Mitchell hiding behind a shed. Mitchell made first contact with officers, shooting one in the arm and hitting an artery. The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment.

More officers arrived, apprehending Mitchell inside the house. An exchange of gunfire ended with Mitchell dead.
